Luxembourg PV
Introduction
Situated in the Luxembourg province, Wallonia, Belgium, the Diodi solar farm is a planned 40MW PV installation set to be connected to the Elia high voltage transmission grid. Initially designed for 70kV operation, the connection is intended to be upgraded to 110kV post-2030. Enersynt performed a techno-economical optimization of the grid connection system consisting of the transformer stations, collection circuit and export cable connection.
Project background
Diodi is a specialist in sustainable land management, focused on renewable energy projects that integrate agriculture, clean energy, and biodiversity into holistic farmland management initiatives. This innovative approach emphasizes collaboration with landowners and farmers to create projects that benefit the environment and local communities.
Role of Enersynt
Enersynt conducted an exhaustive analysis of solar farm yield and energy market forecasts, followed by a comprehensive optimization of the grid connection system. This optimization aimed to determine the optimal voltage levels, number, and locations of transformer stations, as well as the design of high voltage and medium voltage cables. The goal was to minimize the lifetime cost of the collection circuit and export cable connection. Enersynt factored in active power losses, expected energy not supplied due to asset unavailability, and initial investment costs to realize the project.
Once the optimal grid connection topology was established, Enersynt provided further support to Diodi in the permitting and grid connection application process by developing necessary drawings to support the application.
Conclusion
Enersynt's involvement in optimizing the grid connection system for this solar farm development underscores the importance of technical expertise in maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs in renewable energy projects.
By leveraging advanced optimization techniques and market insights, Enersynt delivered an efficient and robust design that enables the client to further advance their sustainable energy infrastructure developments in Belgium.
